“This I Know”

Nané makes pop music a more honest pursuit with “This I Know,” from their debut LP.

This I Know starts the album off strong by luring you into a pop cathedral of strange tones and grooves, setting the stage for one of the most eclectic LP’s of the last year. The song shuffles between a Dick Dale style surf guitar lead mixed with a Phantom of the Opera funeral organ ominously hanging overhead. Easily one of the most eccentric tracks on their debut album, Nané comes out of the gate swinging their virtuosity around effortlessly; from a blistering bass solo, to a guitar track that has free range to go anywhere at any time. Daniel Sahad adds an ambiance of dread with a haunting vocal section, showing off his range of vocal inflections. With an emphasis on old school logic, and the freedom to explore new sounds in any working order, Nané makes pop music a more honest pursuit by showing us what makes them tick, and building upon that exponentially. “Nané” is one of the most interesting debut LP’s to come out in recent memory, and we should all be excited to see where they lead us next.
